01The short answer
Two entries, one expanded note, one reference, no new duty.
The amendment extends the base framework at the point where a practitioner selects an algorithm family. It does not replace the framework, add a management system requirement or create a certification route. The public summary is the only account of its technical content, and this page separates that summary from the published base text.
- A new entry at 6.5.3.2.9 describes transformer architecture and algorithm, including encoder-decoder structure, self-attention and the difference between encoder-only and decoder-only use.
- A new entry at 6.5.3.2.10 defines a generative model as one that produces new data from a learned distribution, and lists the model families it covers.
- The note at 7.5 on self-supervised learning is expanded with the model collapse risk of training on generated output over successive cycles.
- The bibliography is updated with a survey of AI-generated content.
- No certification, no transition audit and no management system requirement is created by this amendment.

03Where it lands
Inside the algorithm catalogue, not at the top of the document.
| Draft unit | What the public summary states | Attaches to |
|---|---|---|
6.5.3.2.9 | A transformer architecture and algorithm entry: encoder-decoder structure, self-attention, and the encoder-only and decoder-only distinction. | 6.5.3 Categories of ML algorithms |
6.5.3.2.10 | A generative model definition: new data from a learned distribution, with the model families it covers. | 6.5.3 Categories of ML algorithms |
7.5 note | An expanded note on model collapse when generated output is used to train successive models. | 7.5 Self-supervised learning |
Bibliography | An updated reference list including a survey of AI-generated content. | Bibliography |
04What is not held
The line this site will not cross.
The amendment body, the final wording of the two new entries, the expanded note and the final bibliography are not held. They are not quoted, paraphrased as if they were text, or presented as published. What the site holds is the public stage record, the public base sample, the public contents and the public draft summary. Where a statement depends on the summary, the page says so.
What an organisation can do now
- Put every generative system into the AI system description with the task, model, data and tools split.
- Record the architecture: encoder-only, decoder-only or encoder-decoder, and the task it serves.
- Write a synthetic data rule and a model collapse check before the next retrain.
- Keep the 42001 impact assessment and the statement of applicability current, because those are the certifiable obligations.
- Ask the certification body or auditor in writing which vocabulary it will test at the next audit.
- Watch the ISO stage, the parallel ISO/IEC 22989:2022/DAmd 1 terminology amendment and the ISO/IEC 23053:2022/AWI Amd 2 project.
Not legal advice; does not certify. The planning date 16 February 2027 is an estimate, not an ISO publication date. The CEN date 4 April 2027 is the European adoption project's expectation.
